PORTFOLIO GP CAREERS

"I'm still buzzing the next day, and feel full of optimism about the future."

What is a Portfolio career?

A Portfolio medical career is not something which is taught about in medical training. However, medical careers last over 40 years, and it's only natural that we want to shape our careers to suit our personalities, talents and interests.

A Portfolio career is not about leaving medicine – it's about combining your medical career with your other interests.

Your other skills and talents can be of a huge benefit both within your medical practice and outside it.

And paradoxically, combining skills in this way can actually help retain medics within the NHS.

WHY EXPLORE A PORTFOLIO CAREER?

There are many reasons why a Portfolio career may be something you wish to consider.
  • A medical career can be stressful, and can lead to burnout.
  • It may turn out that your current role is not the job you dreamed it would be.
  • You may have other skills which you wish to utilise alongside medicine.
  • You may not be feeling as fulfilled by your job as you would like to be.
You can read our quick guide, 'Happy Career, Happy You', on how to a get a career that you love, and also watch Inspired Medics Founder Angela Goyal talking with Dr Claire Kayne about how to have a 'Happy Career and Happy You'.
